Pedophobe

Like Kincaid's pedophile, who embodies a prohibited extreme of child-love, the pedophobe in children's literature occupies a similar place, giving voice to the most hyperbolic expressions of child-hate, sometimes even as a source of pleasure for child-hating adult (or child) readers who might consciously or unconsciously identify with the pedophobe.

"More than anything I love children!" she states from the outset, which is technically what the term pedophile means. She is certainly not a pedophobe, but this again raises the question of what kind of love is most appropriate for a parent or surrogate mother to have.

Perhaps that has to do with the number of people who DO use the word "pedophile" interchangably with the term "child molester". If you live with that prejudice every day then you would tend to get somewhat defensive wouldn't you? […] I'm not a pedophile, and the actions of certain pedophobes have caused me to be offended by the misuse of the word.

Also making strides is an offshoot of the gay movement, spearheaded by its more progressive members, called the North American Man-Boy Love Association. They still have a ways to go before Congress passes a law eliminating a legal age of consent. (Even in England, parliamentary pedophobes (or pedophilophobes?) in 1998 voted against lowering the age of consent from 18 to 16 although the measure passed in the House of Commons 336 to 129.)
