Pertusate

Unexpanded basidiocarps (peridia) 1.5-3 x 1-1.5 cm, white, globose, then ovate, splitting irregularly at apex into several lobes, attached by a white, branched, cord-like mycelium. Pileus Chinese writing brush shaped to narrow campanulate, rutilous, externally finely to coarsely rugulose; lower margin even to irregular; apex becoming truncate at maturity, pertusate at center, 1.5-3.3 cm high, 1-1.5 cm wide, and surface again with greenish brown, mucilaginous, stinking gleba.

We have not accepted the genus Trematosphaeria as distinct from Melanomma. The basing of a genus upon size and pertusate apex seems insufficient. The latter character is often a condition of age and consequent deciduousness of the neck or ostiolum.
