Vellicating

After having examined the ſymptoms, he declared that the patient had be poiſoned with arſenic, and preſcribed oily draughts and lubricating injections, to defend the coats of the ſtomach and inteſtines from the vellicating particles of that pernicious mineral; at the ſame time hinting, with a look of infinite ſagacity, that it was not difficult to divine the whole myſtery.

The ſpiculated, or needle-like form of the ſaline concentrations, ſometimes found in magneſia alba, quoted by Mr. Glaſs, from Dr. Black, is common in the incipent chryſtallization of all ſalts: and the charging the ſalts, in this ſtate, with a vellicating and pungent action, in conſequence of their form, is the reviving an error, long exploded, on the moſt demonſtrative principles.
