Fansub

While Díaz Cintas and Muños Sánchez (2006) hint at the implications of fansub for commercial audiovisual translation norms, Pérez González (2006) places the practice in the frame of ‘interventionist’ goals emerging in the media landscape, with fans’ search for authenticity in translation.

The practices of fansub (user translation of a film from its original language into another and adding subtitles) and fandub (user dubbing or redubbing of a film in a way that usually changes its storyline, dialogue, and character personalities) gains more producers and a larger audience every month, and remixing is now standard musical practice.

In the case of fansub, the danmaku interface effectively visualizes and mediates the cosmopolitan contact zone as a layer of paratextual comments on screen (Fig 8.5).
